No Impact

During No Impact week, I went to the Farmer's Market, didn't use elevators, recycled, and would pick up trash here and there on the way to class if I saw any. Eating healthier, getting more activity, and helping the environment definitely contributed to a personal sense of well-being.
This is one thing that stood out to me in No Impact Man-- the fact that living a lifestyle that takes care of you, those around you, and the planet, does make you feel healthier/happier. It makes so much sense but I feel it's hard to live this way just because we're so surrounded by media/society that tells us the opposite: to live for ourselves. Also, I agree with Beavan in his idea that we need a change in lifestyle/mindset, as opposed to "type of fuel/transportation/food." Lastly, his emphasis on our need for community stood out to me too. Like he said, why are we living our lives glued to our computer/TV/Blackberry when we could be living our own actual real lives, with a purpose. Can't wait for this next class to discuss this even more!
